Arne Slot says Alisson Becker’s return is still uncertain.

 

 

Liverpool could still have Alisson Becker available for Sunday’s Premier League clash with Tottenham Hotspur F.C., although manager Arne Slot has admitted there is no guarantee yet.

The Brazilian goalkeeper missed Liverpool’s recent Champions League defeat to Galatasaray S.K. after experiencing discomfort during training earlier in the week.

With Tottenham set to visit Anfield on Sunday, Slot provided an update on the goalkeeper’s condition during a press conference at the AXA Training Centre.

The Liverpool boss explained that Alisson has been working closely with the club’s medical staff and physiotherapists but could still rejoin the team for training.

Slot said the goalkeeper had been undergoing rehabilitation and that the coaching staff would assess whether he could participate in the team’s training session later in the day.

While the Dutch manager remains optimistic, he acknowledged that a final decision has not yet been made. Slot noted that he had not spoken with the player or medical team earlier that morning but is hopeful about the situation.

The Liverpool coach also revealed that the injury occurred during a routine moment in training when Alisson felt a slight issue in one of his muscles while passing the ball. After medical checks, the problem was considered minor.

However, due to the tight schedule of matches, the Brazil international was unable to recover in time for the Champions League trip to Istanbul.

Slot said the quick turnaround between fixtures meant Alisson had to miss the Galatasaray game but the staff are hopeful he will be available for Sunday’s league match.

Even if the goalkeeper is not ready to face Tottenham, the manager suggested his absence should not last long and that he could return for the upcoming Champions League match against Galatasaray at Anfield next week.

Alisson remains one of Liverpool’s most important players, and his absence during the match in Turkey highlighted his value to the team.

Journalist Paul Joyce previously reported that the goalkeeper did not travel with the squad to Istanbul after feeling discomfort following Monday’s training session.

According to the report, Alisson stayed behind while the rest of the Liverpool squad travelled, leaving Giorgi Mamardashvili likely to step in as his replacement.

With a key Premier League game approaching and the Champions League second leg against Galatasaray coming up next week, Liverpool fans will now be waiting to see whether Alisson will be fit enough to return to goal.
