While Liverpool is focused on securing new contracts for Virgil van Dijk, Mo Salah, and Trent Alexander-Arnold, the future of Luis Diaz is also a priority.
The Colombian winger has been in excellent form recently, prompting Liverpool to consider extending his contract. According to sources, during contract talks in December, Liverpool’s management, including Arne Slot, met with Diaz and his representatives to express their satisfaction with his performance. They also assured him that they had no intention of selling him in the January transfer window.
Diaz’s current contract runs until June 2027, and despite interest from both Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona, Liverpool holds the upper hand. Reports suggest PSG and Barcelona have recently contacted Diaz’s representatives to discuss his situation.
Interestingly, Diaz has shown a strong desire to join Barcelona, but the move seems unlikely due to the club’s Financial Fair Play issues and their difficulty registering Dani Olmo for the season’s second half. PSG is reportedly ready to offer €60m plus one of their players for Diaz, but Liverpool is not currently open to such negotiations.
With Mo Salah reportedly agreeing to a new deal and Real Madrid also reportedly settling on their stance regarding van Dijk, Liverpool hopes to secure Diaz’s future as well. If they manage to extend his contract, it would be a major boost to their Premier League title aspirations.
