Tottenham are lining up a sensational summer reunion with Mauricio Pochettino after finally parting ways with Thomas Frank.

The 53-year-old Argentine is currently in charge of World Cup co-hosts USA, leaving Spurs hunting for a temporary boss to steady the ship for the remainder of the campaign.
Frank, 52, was dismissed yesterday following a disastrous eight-month spell. Spurs sit 16th in the Premier League, just five points clear of the relegation zone, after managing only two wins in their last 17 league matches. Tuesday’s 2-1 home loss to Newcastle proved to be the final blow.

Pochettino, who guided Tottenham to the 2019 Champions League final and oversaw a five-year period of consistent title challenges between 2014 and 2019, remains hugely popular among supporters and is admired by club chiefs. His name rang around the stadium on Tuesday night.

However, he is unlikely to take on a dual role with the World Cup approaching, meaning any potential return would likely wait until his USA contract expires this summer. The former Chelsea boss recently said: “It’s a club that should be in the Champions League, believing it can win both the Champions League and the Premier League.”

For now, assistant John Heitinga, who joined Frank’s staff last month, is the only internal option and could step up alongside fellow coach Justin Cochrane.

Among the external candidates, Roberto De Zerbi is the bookmakers’ favourite after leaving Marseille, ahead of Pochettino, Marco Silva, and Xavi Hernandez. Club icon Jurgen Klinsmann is also in the frame, despite being out of work since his dismissal by South Korea in 2024.
Former Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has even offered his services, insisting: “Could I do the job? Of course I could. It would be a disaster if they went down.”
Tottenham now have a ten-day break before hosting rivals Arsenal in the North London derby.

In a statement, the club said: “We gave Thomas every opportunity to build for the future, but results and performances have forced us to make a change.”
Meanwhile, Spurs are sweating over the fitness of Wilson Odobert, who could miss the rest of the season after suffering a serious knee injury against Newcastle. The 21-year-old winger was forced off after just 35 minutes.
