Uncertainty Surrounds His Future
At their best, Konate and Van Dijk form one of the league’s most formidable defensive pairings, with the Frenchman widely seen as a natural successor to the captain. However, doubts remain over his long-term future, as contract talks have reportedly stalled and his deal expires in June — raising the possibility of a free transfer.
Speculation continues over a potential move to Real Madrid, especially amid reports linking Jurgen Klopp with a role at the Bernabeu and claims he wants to strengthen at centre-back. Such developments could prove tempting for Konate if a reunion were on the table.
Liverpool, meanwhile, appear to be planning ahead. A £60 million agreement for 20-year-old Jeremy Jacquet is already in place for the summer, and the club had previously secured the signing of Giovanni Leoni ahead of the 2025/26 season, suggesting preparations are well underway should Konate depart.
