Tottenham Hotspur are approaching a crucial juncture in their 2025/26 season, with chances to turn potential into tangible progress slipping away for Thomas Frank’s side. While strong Champions League performances have masked some issues, their domestic form continues to raise concerns, with Premier League struggles threatening to derail the campaign.
Despite remaining within reach of European qualification, Tottenham’s league numbers are worrying. Just two wins in their last 14 league matches highlight a stark drop below expectations. Inconsistency has become a persistent problem, and fans are growing frustrated as impressive European nights contrast sharply with flat league displays.
The squad has the quality to achieve more. As the season enters a decisive phase, Spurs must quickly regain confidence, cohesion, and a sharper attacking edge. Frank knows, however, that internal improvement alone may not suffice, and reinforcements before the transfer deadline could be key to salvaging the season.
Areas for potential strengthening
Conor Gallagher has already added intensity and structure to the midfield, his energy and pressing helping Spurs compete more effectively in central areas. Yet concerns remain further forward. While Dominic Solanke’s return to form eases the need for another striker, Tottenham still lack creativity and pace on the wings. Injuries and departures have left the team short of natural wide players, limiting attacking options.
The sale of Brennan Johnson removed a key outlet, and Mohammed Kudus is not expected back until after the March international break. Consequently, Spurs have often looked predictable and lacking penetration in the final third. According to TEAMtalk, Tottenham are among several clubs tracking Real Madrid attacker Brahim Diaz, though competition from Aston Villa, Newcastle, and overseas clubs is fierce.
Diaz, 24, has struggled for regular minutes under Real Madrid boss Alvaro Arbeloa, and with his representatives exploring options, a transfer seems increasingly possible. Any deal would likely cost around £52 million — a significant sum, but one Spurs may see as essential to revive their campaign.
What Diaz could offer
A Manchester City academy graduate, Diaz made 15 senior appearances before joining Real Madrid in January 2019. He has since played over 140 times for the Spanish giants, winning the Champions League and two La Liga titles. His development accelerated during a three-year loan at AC Milan, where his close control, balance, and creativity earned praise.
This season, however, opportunities have been limited: he has started only three La Liga matches and one in Europe, with his role diminishing further since Xabi Alonso’s departure. A move now could benefit both player and club.
For Tottenham, Diaz offers versatility. With Kudus sidelined, he could fill in on the right or left, operate centrally as a number ten, or even play as a false nine — giving Frank tactical flexibility and reducing predictability. More importantly, he brings confidence, flair, and attacking momentum — qualities Spurs have often lacked in league games this season. His previous Premier League experience should allow a smooth adaptation, and he has matured significantly since his earlier time in England.
While Gallagher has helped stabilize midfield, Spurs still need an attacking spark to lift performances and belief. Diaz could provide that, driving a late push up the table and easing pressure on Thomas Frank. If Tottenham are serious about reigniting their season, investing in creativity and pace before the window closes could define their campaign.
