German starlet reveals dream of future Liverpool switch after past links
Brighton attacker Brajan Gruda has openly mentioned Liverpool while speaking about his long-term ambition to one day represent an elite club.
The Reds were previously linked with the Germany U21 international during his time at Mainz two summers ago. Bundesliga expert Christian Falk later revealed that Liverpool had even made contact for the winger shortly after Arne Slot took charge at Anfield. Although Gruda completed a Premier League move in August 2024, it was Brighton who secured his signature for £25m. He went on to register an assist against Liverpool last season as the Seagulls claimed a dramatic 3–2 win late in the campaign.
Speaking to Sky Sports Germany this week, the 21-year-old outlined his career goals, admitting his desire to reach the very top of the game. Gruda said his dream is to play Champions League football, become a full international, and feature for one of Europe’s giants — naming Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Liverpool as his ideal destinations.
His spell in England has been mixed so far. Injuries have disrupted his rhythm, contributing to a modest return of four goals and eight assists in 45 appearances for Brighton. However, he recently delivered one of his standout performances for the club in the FA Cup, scoring and assisting as Brighton knocked Manchester United out of the competition earlier this month.
Despite that display, consistent form has been hard to come by. Local reports have suggested that Gruda has struggled with both fitness and confidence since arriving at the Amex, leaving him with plenty still to prove in the Premier League.
That said, his underlying attributes hint at why Liverpool once tracked him and could do so again in the future. While he remains some distance from being ready to command a regular role in Liverpool’s attack, improved fitness and a stronger end product could yet put him back on the Reds’ radar. And if Liverpool ever need insight into his character, his Brighton teammate James Milner would be well placed to offer it — having already mastered life at Anfield.
