Thomas Frank could receive a significant boost at Tottenham, with a decision on Leon Goretzka expected in the coming hours.
Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly entered the race to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka as the January transfer window approaches its final stages.
The closing days of the window are expected to be busy for Spurs, with Thomas Frank eager to strengthen his squad with at least one or two additions. The club is said to be considering a move for Osasuna attacker Victor Munoz, whose release clause stands at £34 million, while Sunderland goalkeeper Robin Roefs has also emerged as a possible long-term replacement for Guglielmo Vicario.
Meanwhile, Randal Kolo Muani’s future at Tottenham remains uncertain, with the forward potentially leaving before the 2 February deadline.
Although Spurs have already completed the signing of Conor Gallagher this month, midfield depth remains a major concern. Injuries to Joao Palhinha, James Maddison, Lucas Bergvall and Rodrigo Bentancur have significantly reduced Frank’s options, leaving Yves Bissouma, Archie Gray, Pape Sarr, Xavi Simons and Gallagher as the only available midfielders. As a result, another midfield signing appears increasingly likely.
According to Marca journalist Matteo Moretto, Tottenham have recently made enquiries about Goretzka’s availability. Atletico Madrid are also keeping an eye on the situation, with the 30-year-old set to become a free agent when his Bayern contract expires in the summer. Bayern are reportedly assessing their options and could decide within hours whether to sanction his departure this month.
Landing a player of Goretzka’s quality late in the window would represent a major boost for Tottenham. The German international, who has earned 67 caps and scored 15 goals for his country, has enjoyed a highly successful spell at Bayern, winning numerous Bundesliga titles, domestic trophies, the Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup and the Club World Cup. With his contract nearing its end, Spurs could be well positioned to secure him at a reduced fee, potentially adding an experienced and proven performer to their squad.
