Tottenham player ratings vs Burnley: Romero and Odobert stand out while Xavi Simons and Gallagher struggle

Tottenham were forced to settle for a 2-2 draw at Burnley on Saturday, leaving the Spurs with another frustrating afternoon in the Premier League. Thomas Frank kept faith with the back three that had delivered a Champions League victory over Borussia Dortmund midweek. Kevin Danso and Cristian Romero were joined by Micky van de Ven, who returned after serving a suspension in Europe.

Conor Gallagher returned to midfield alongside Yves Bissouma, who made his first start of the season, while Dominic Solanke was given his first league start of the campaign.

Spurs started strongly, dominating early and testing Martin Dubravka with several efforts. The breakthrough came from a half-cleared corner that fell to Van de Ven, who fired a low shot into the net. Tottenham had 10 first-half attempts, seven on target, but Burnley levelled just before halftime. Burnley’s first meaningful attack saw Kyle Walker find an unmarked Axel Tuanzebe, who finished from close range.
The second half continued with chances at both ends. Guglielmo Vicario denied Armando Broja, but Burnley went ahead in the 76th minute despite Tottenham still having five defenders on the pitch. Lyle Foster’s shot crossed the line after Vicario appeared to make two saves, with Destiny Udogie unable to stop it.

Tottenham responded late when captain Cristian Romero powered home a header to make it 2-2, but the equaliser did little to calm the crowd, who were chanting for Thomas Frank to be sacked by full-time.
