Tottenham have quietly confirmed the exit of a player who was included in the squad for the clash with Borussia Dortmund.

Tottenham’s January window is shaping up to focus more on exits than incomings.

The Lewis family are still weighing up Thomas Frank’s long-term future after a run of underwhelming results, though the Dane appears to have bought himself some time. Spurs’ 2–0 Champions League victory over Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday is expected to keep Frank in the dugout for this weekend’s meeting with Burnley. While Joe Lewis is prepared to back the squad financially, the uncertainty surrounding the managerial situation could restrict further recruitment beyond the arrival of Conor Gallagher.

As a result, Tottenham have continued to prioritise the development of their young talents through loan moves, with Yusuf Akhamrich the latest academy product to head out.

Akhamrich seals Bristol Rovers loan

Highly regarded at Hotspur Way, Akhamrich has caught the eye across Tottenham’s academy sides in recent seasons. His progress has also impressed Frank, who named the 20-year-old winger in the matchday squad against Dortmund. Spurs confirmed on Thursday that Akhamrich has joined League Two outfit Bristol Rovers on loan until the end of the season, although the move has yet to be officially announced on the club’s social channels — a surprise given the buzz around the youngster.

Bristol Rovers had first taken notice of Akhamrich back in August, when he featured for Spurs’ U21s in a penalty shootout defeat and even found the net against his future club. All parties will be hoping the spell proves a positive step in his development.

Another academy star emerging

Tottenham’s youth system continues to produce exciting prospects, with Akhamrich’s rise underlining the pathway into Frank’s matchday plans.

Another name to keep an eye on is Luca Williams-Barnett. Still only 17, the winger has produced outstanding numbers for the U21s this season:

Williams-Barnett made his senior debut in September during Spurs’ 3–0 Carabao Cup win over Doncaster Rovers, albeit for a brief three-minute cameo.
