Tottenham Hotspur went into their Champions League meeting with Borussia Dortmund knowing there was no margin for error. Victory was essential, and Spurs rose to the occasion with a display that highlighted their potential when things click. Although the tempo dropped after the interval, the outcome was largely decided early on. Goals from captain Cristian Romero and Dominic Solanke in the first half put Tottenham firmly in control, strengthening their push for a top-16 finish and avoiding the complication of an extra knockout round. It wasn’t flawless, but it stood out as one of their most convincing performances of the season.
Just as importantly, the win halted a worrying dip in form. With confidence boosted, Thomas Frank can now turn his attention back to league matters, starting with a tough Premier League trip to struggling Burnley. Belief has often been lacking among key players this season, yet this performance showcased the squad’s underlying quality — something they have not always delivered consistently.

Son’s presence and menace out wide have been badly missed, yet Wilson Odobert reminded everyone that Spurs already have exciting talent within their ranks.
Odobert’s breakthrough display
The 21-year-old winger delivered a stunning performance in front of Dortmund’s famous Yellow Wall. Playing on the right, Odobert caused constant problems, supplying two assists and earning an 8/10 rating from football.london. His speed, movement and decision-making repeatedly stretched Dortmund’s defence, while his combination play with Solanke gave Spurs a potent attacking outlet. Henry Winter’s description of him as “unstoppable on the right” felt fitting.
Still a work in progress, Odobert’s potential is clear. His direct style, pace and technical ability drew comparisons to Son in his prime, while winning seven duels underlined a level of maturity beyond his age.
Emerging from Son’s shadow
Son’s legacy at Tottenham — 173 goals and 101 assists over ten years — sets a daunting benchmark. Replacing that influence is no easy task, but Odobert appears to understand what Spurs fans expect: bravery, intensity and accountability. This performance offered compelling evidence that he possesses the qualities to grow into a leading figure.
Whether this night marks a true turning point or another fleeting high remains uncertain. Spurs have produced impressive wins and memorable European evenings before, only to stumble again. Still, if Odobert and his teammates can reproduce this standard more regularly, Tottenham may finally achieve the consistency they crave — and re-establish themselves in both domestic and European competition.
