Liverpool have provided an update on their Premier League match against Leicester City amid concerns over adverse weather conditions.
The league leaders are scheduled to host Ruud van Nistelrooy’s Leicester at Anfield on Thursday night, but thick fog in the area has raised doubts about the game proceeding as planned.
Liverpool FC Help issued a social media advisory urging fans to depart earlier than usual due to the foggy conditions. The post stated: “If you are coming to the match today, please ensure you set off earlier than usual due to foggy conditions in and around Anfield stadium. Please take care when travelling.”
Journalist James Pearce from The Athletic also addressed the situation, confirming that Liverpool expects the match to go ahead despite the weather. He added that there is no scheduled 4 p.m. pitch inspection at Anfield.
Earlier this month, Liverpool’s match against Everton was postponed due to similar weather issues. The club had then issued a statement emphasizing that the safety of fans, players, and staff was their top priority.
Meanwhile, Chelsea’s current 1-0 lead over Fulham at Stamford Bridge could temporarily reduce Liverpool’s lead at the top of the table to just one point.
In the matchday programme, captain Virgil van Dijk reflected on Liverpool’s strong position this season, saying: “We know there’s a long way to go, and we won’t take anything for granted. But we’ve given ourselves a solid platform to build on. The task now is to stay humble, work hard every day, and give everything we can. If we stick to these principles, 2025 could be another incredible year for this club.”
