Man City fans quickly single out one player following Everton’s stunning equaliser.

Manchester City fans quickly directed their frustration at one player after Everton’s dramatic equaliser in their Premier League encounter.

City, who entered the match on the back of two consecutive league defeats, took an early lead in the 14th minute when Bernardo Silva found the net. However, nine minutes before halftime, Everton drew level with a sensational strike from Iliman Ndiaye.

Supporters on social media pointed fingers at Manuel Akanji, accusing him of a crucial defensive error in the build-up to the goal. Akanji misjudged Abdoulaye Doucoure’s cross, allowing the ball to reach Ndiaye, who capitalised with a stunning finish.

Criticism of Akanji quickly spread online. One user on X wrote, “What are you doing, Akanji?” Another compared him to Shkodran Mustafi, tweeting, “Akanji defending like Mustafi.”

Others were similarly critical, with comments like, “That was poor defending from Akanji; City need to tighten up at the back,” and, “That was more on Akanji than Lewis, though Everton played well there.” Another fan added, “What was that from Akanji? City dominated, but they conceded on Everton’s first real chance!”

Man City will look to bounce back in the second half as they seek their first league win since defeating Nottingham Forest 3-0 earlier this month.
