Monaco are reportedly assessing possible replacements for Tottenham Hotspur target Maghnes Akliouche as uncertainty grows over the winger’s future at the club, according to journalist Alasdair Gold.
The Ligue 1 side are believed to be preparing for the possibility of Akliouche leaving either during the current transfer window or in the summer, with the 23-year-old expected to move on in the coming months.
Gold revealed that Tottenham previously considered Akliouche as an alternative option to Xavi Simons ahead of the season and has not dismissed the possibility of the north London club renewing their interest this month.
Simons has scored just one Premier League goal since completing a £51m move from RB Leipzig on a deal running until June 2030.
Monaco Preparing for Possible Departure
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Gold explained that Monaco are already planning ahead in case Akliouche departs:
I understand that Monaco are looking at potential replacements for him in case they do lose him either this month or the summer.
From what I understand, he was an alternate option to Xavi Simons in the summer, so it maybe would be a bit of a surprise if they were to then turn to another option when they’ve signed Xavi.
But we’ll see, we’ll see.”
After recording 15 goal contributions in 32 league matches and helping Monaco secure Champions League qualification last season, Akliouche has experienced a more challenging 2025/26 campaign.
The £50m-valued attacker has managed three goals and two assists in 16 league appearances for Monaco, who currently sit ninth in Ligue 1 after 17 matches.
Following his strong performances in the previous campaign, Akliouche earned his first call-up to the France national team and has featured five times in World Cup qualifiers, scoring once.
Spurs Monitoring January Reinforcements
Tottenham are exploring the option of strengthening their attacking options this month due to injuries within Thomas Frank’s squad. Dejan Kulusevski, Mohammed Kudus, Richarlison and Lucas Bergvall are currently sidelined, which may influence transfer activity before the window closes on February 2.
Spurs have already confirmed the signing of Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid and are expected to complete the arrival of Brazilian left-back Souza next.
The two incoming deals are estimated at around £53m combined, while approximately £40m has been raised through the sale of Brennan Johnson to Crystal Palace
