Tottenham’s joint sporting director bids farewell after just 3 months back!

 

 

Fabio Paratici is set to leave Tottenham and join Fiorentina after the January transfer window, just three months after returning to the north London club.
Paratici had originally departed Spurs in April 2023 following the rejection of his appeal against a two-and-a-half-year ban by Italy’s highest sports court. He returned in October last year as joint sporting director alongside Johan Lange. Tottenham CEO Vinai Venkatesham confirmed that Paratici had expressed a desire to return to Italy, saying:
“We have agreed that Fabio will return to Italy after the January transfer window, in line with his wish to move home. We thank him for his contributions and wish him well. Our management structure is resilient, and business will continue as usual.”
Paratici expressed gratitude for his time at Spurs, saying the chance to join Fiorentina and return to Italy was the key factor in his decision. He added that he holds Spurs close to his heart and will watch the club’s progress from afar.
Despite speculation about disagreements, the departure is purely a personal decision. It’s unclear if Tottenham will appoint a replacement, with the club emphasizing the resilience of its management structure. This January window marks a shift at Spurs, as Daniel Levy is no longer solely overseeing transfers, and the hierarchy is more involved.
Paratici has been popular at Spurs and played a major role in numerous signings, with mixed results—successful acquisitions include Cristian Romero, Dejan Kulusevski, and Rodrigo Bentancur, while some like Emerson Royal and Manor Solomon were less impactful. He will remain involved in Spurs’ January transfer dealings before his departure.
Paratici initially left Spurs after losing an appeal against a ban linked to alleged false accounting at Juventus, but returned in a diminished role compared to his first tenure. At Fiorentina, he is expected to have full control over football matters.
During his time at Spurs, Paratici achieved some transfer market successes and helped the team win the Europa League, although not all signings hit the mark. His final responsibility will be managing the crucial January transfer window, adding reinforcements such as Conor Gallagher, but his brief second spell means he leaves without a lasting legacy at the club.
