Liverpool keeping tabs on two-time Champions League winner”

Liverpool are reportedly keeping a close eye on Xabi Alonso following his recent dismissal as Real Madrid manager.

The Spaniard struggled to make the desired impact at the Bernabeu after taking over last summer, despite a highly impressive tenure at Bayer Leverkusen. Meanwhile, Arne Slot’s time at Anfield has seen ups and downs, with the Dutch coach under increasing scrutiny after a less consistent season than his debut campaign.

According to Fichajes, interest in Alonso returning to Liverpool as manager appears to be growing by the day. The outlet notes that while Liverpool are monitoring the situation, they could face competition from clubs like Manchester City and Bayern Munich. At Leverkusen, Alonso guided the club to their first-ever Bundesliga title and led them to the Europa League final in 2023/24.

As a player, Alonso boasts a glittering record, having won the Champions League with both Liverpool and Real Madrid, along with numerous domestic honours at those clubs and Bayern Munich.

Should Liverpool consider a change from Slot, Alonso would likely be a fan favourite. Yet, opinions are divided, as many supporters may feel Slot deserves more time, given he secured the Premier League title in his first season. While Alonso could represent an upgrade, his stint at Real Madrid shows that success is never guaranteed.

Slot does appear to be turning things around, however, with Liverpool now unbeaten in their last eleven matches after a difficult stretch that saw nine defeats in twelve games.
