Conor Gallagher has arrived for his medical as Tottenham line up a potential triple signing this January.

Conor Gallagher is set to travel to England on Tuesday to complete a medical with Tottenham as he closes in on a £34.6m transfer from Atletico Madrid.

The former Chelsea midfielder is believed to have agreed a five-and-a-half-year contract, with Spurs keen to register him in time for Saturday’s clash against West Ham. Tottenham have moved quickly to secure his signature ahead of Aston Villa after Rodrigo Bentancur was sidelined for three months with a hamstring injury.

Gallagher is on course to return to the Premier League just 18 months after leaving Chelsea, and his arrival is expected to spark a busy January for Spurs. The club are also nearing a £13m deal for Brazilian left-back Souza and are in the market for an additional forward.

He joined Atletico Madrid in 2024 in a £38m move and was a key figure in his debut season under Diego Simeone, featuring in 50 matches. However, he has started only eight games this term and is seeking more consistent minutes as he looks to work his way back into the England squad ahead of next summer’s World Cup.

Although Gallagher featured in England squads for the last three major tournaments, he has not been selected by Thomas Tuchel this season. Tottenham’s midfield options have been stretched by Bentancur’s injury, and the club hope Gallagher can add energy and quality to a side that has struggled under Thomas Frank.

With Pape Sarr due to return soon from the Africa Cup of Nations, Spurs still see an urgent need to strengthen in the middle of the park. The club have tracked Gallagher for some time, and his signing is viewed as a major boost at a point when Tottenham are in need of momentum.
