Sol Campbell has named an unexpected candidate he believes would be the perfect manager for his former club Tottenham, insisting the club is already holding behind-the-scenes discussions as Thomas Frank comes under increasing pressure.

Tottenham rival Sol Campbell has suggested that Ruben Amorim would be the perfect candidate to take charge of Spurs, as scrutiny continues to grow around current manager Thomas Frank.

The former England centre-back, now 51, remains a deeply divisive figure among Tottenham supporters following his infamous move to Arsenal in 2001. Despite making 315 appearances over nine seasons and captaining the club after rising through the academy, many fans have never forgiven the switch.

Even so, Campbell has never shied away from expressing his views on his former club. Speaking to Sky Bet, he identified ex-Manchester United boss Amorim as a viable option who could succeed at Tottenham should the club decide to make a managerial change.

Campbell claimed Spurs are likely already monitoring Amorim’s situation and hinted that informal discussions could be taking place behind the scenes. He added that a return to Portugal seems unlikely for Amorim, suggesting Tottenham may be exploring whether an opportunity exists.
Amorim was dismissed by Manchester United last Monday after 14 months in charge, following a series of disputes with the club’s hierarchy, and has since gone back to Portugal.

Meanwhile, Frank has endured a difficult start to life in north London after arriving from Brentford in the summer. Tottenham currently sit 14th in the Premier League and were eliminated from the FA Cup by Aston Villa over the weekend, with sections of the fanbase voicing their frustration.

Campbell admitted that, given the club’s struggles, it is only natural that Frank’s position is being questioned. While praising Frank’s ability, he noted that managing Tottenham brings a different level of expectation compared to Brentford, with supporters demanding progress and consistent success.

He added that strong performances, even without immediate wins, can help ease pressure, but stressed that clubs of Tottenham’s size will always keep alternative options under consideration until results improve.

Tottenham are back in action on Saturday when they host West Ham, before turning their attention to a Champions League clash with Borussia Dortmund the following Tuesday.
