“An absolute mess” – Tottenham supporters rage after Spurs activate transfer clause, branding it “truly dreadful”

Tottenham fans are growing increasingly angry with the club’s transfer activity this window as Thomas Frank’s difficult spell in North London drags on.

The Spurs boss is facing mounting pressure after just 29 matches in charge, having recorded a win rate of only 38 per cent, leaving Tottenham languishing in 13th place in the Premier League. Most recently, Spurs were held to a 1-1 draw by Sunderland, with Brian Brobbey scoring a late equaliser in the 80th minute. However, the bigger concern to emerge from that game was an injury to Mohammed Kudus.

The Lilywhites could now be without one of their key players for several weeks in the second half of the 2025–26 season, with Kudus joining Dominic Solanke, Dejan Kulusevski and James Maddison on the injury list.

Supporters were already upset by Jamie Donley’s move to Oxford United, which included a permanent option, and frustrations have only deepened following the latest update involving Alfie Dorrington. Spurs have recalled the young defender just six months into his loan at Aberdeen, despite him being limited to only a few starts in the Scottish Premiership along with some appearances in European competition.

Many fans believe the anger stems less from individual decisions and more from Tottenham’s apparent lack of urgency in securing January signings. One supporter described the club as “truly woeful” when it comes to loan dealings, while another highlighted what they see as the real issue: an overreliance on loans instead of strengthening the first team with permanent reinforcements. This view appears to be widely shared among the fanbase.

There is also a feeling that Thomas Frank should take note of comments made by Aberdeen manager Jimmy Thelin, who has spoken highly of the 20-year-old centre-back and was keen to keep him for a second season. Despite that, Spurs have opted to make a decisive call on Dorrington’s future.

Back in July, Thelin said: “We’re pleased Alfie has returned to the club. He played an important part in the squad in the second half of the season, and with the campaign ahead, we will need strength in depth to be competitive across all competitions. Alfie settled well and made a real contribution, so it’s always pleasing when a player shows a strong desire to be at the club.”

While several Championship sides are reportedly monitoring Dorrington’s situation, there is a growing belief that Frank may be better served by keeping the promising youngster in North London.
