Fabrizio Romano reveals player is expected to head back to Liverpool in latest transfer update

 

 

Fabrizio Romano reports that Harvey Elliott is expected to return to Liverpool from his loan spell at Aston Villa, with another temporary move likely to follow.

The 22-year-old found opportunities limited at Anfield before departing last summer, and his situation hasn’t improved at Villa Park, where he has struggled to make an impact. Liverpool would have hoped Elliott would feature more regularly in the Premier League, either proving he could return as a stronger option under Arne Slot or boosting his value ahead of a potential permanent transfer.

Instead, the move has failed to deliver. Romano has since revealed on X that the England Under-21 international will head back to Liverpool, with a possible new loan on the cards — this time to MLS side Charlotte FC.

A switch to Charlotte could be a statement signing for the club, as Elliott still has the talent to develop into a top-level player as he approaches his prime. Once regarded as one of the brightest young prospects at Fulham, his progress has stalled, but time is still on his side to reignite his career.

Some Liverpool supporters may even feel recalling Elliott for the second half of the season could be worthwhile. With LFC enduring a difficult campaign, additional depth in midfield and attack could prove valuable.

That said, if Elliott was deemed surplus to requirements and has also failed to shine at Villa, it’s difficult to argue he currently has what it takes to significantly improve Liverpool’s squad at this stage.
