Slot Decisions Spark Fury as Liverpool Held to Goalless Draw vs Leeds

Frustrated Liverpool Fans Slam Slot After Yet Another Leeds Draw

Liverpool fans are fuming at manager Arne Slot following their team’s second draw of the season, a goalless stalemate against Leeds.

Despite dominating possession and creating multiple chances at Anfield, the Reds were unable to break down an inspired Leeds defense. Hugo Ekitike had Liverpool’s best opening in the first half but accidentally headed away a cross from Jeremie Frimpong.

Slot made several substitutions in the second half to try to turn the game in Liverpool’s favor. He replaced £100 million signing Florian Wirtz in the 66th minute with Cody Gakpo, Alexis Mac Allister, and Milos Kerkez. Gakpo struggled to make an impact in his first 15 minutes, repeatedly cutting inside onto his right foot without creating much danger.

Federico Chiesa and Rio Ngumoha were only introduced in the final 10 minutes, prompting frustration from fans who felt the wingers should have come on earlier instead of Gakpo. One supporter wrote: “Slot takes off Wirtz for Gakpo when we need a goal. Clueless!” Another added: “Arne Slot’s treatment of Federico Chiesa is disgraceful. When he leaves, he won’t be missed.”

Other fans criticized the late introduction of Ngumoha, with one noting: “The only time he has given Rio Ngumoha a chance is when he needs the 17-year-old to win him a game,” and another commenting: “Rio Ngumoha comes on to play six minutes vs Leeds after eight games on the bench.”

Despite the draw, Liverpool remain fourth in the Premier League, three points ahead of fifth-placed Chelsea, who parted ways with manager Enzo Maresca on New Year’s Day. Reports suggest behind-the-scenes tensions with club owners contributed to Maresca’s exit, with Chelsea issuing a brief 99-word statement about the departure of the manager who led them to the Club World Cup just six months ago.
