Trent Alexander-Arnold Presented with Surprising Exit Opportunity from Real Madrid

Trent Alexander-Arnold may have a potential exit from Real Madrid, with reports suggesting two Premier League clubs are interested in signing him.

The 27-year-old left his boyhood club Liverpool last summer, where he had spent his entire career until then—a move that divided opinion among Reds supporters.

During his time at Liverpool, Alexander-Arnold scored 23 goals in 354 appearances and collected an impressive array of trophies, including two Premier League titles, the Champions League, the FA Cup, the League Cup, the UEFA Super Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup. His contract with Liverpool was set to expire in June 2025, meaning he could have joined Real Madrid on a free transfer. However, Madrid chose to pay a transfer fee to secure his participation in last summer’s FIFA Club World Cup, which Chelsea ultimately won.

Alexander-Arnold’s first season in Spain has been inconsistent. He has featured in just 11 games across all competitions and suffered a quadriceps injury in December, sidelining him for several months.

With the January transfer window now open, rumors about his future have intensified. Spanish outlet Fichajes reports that Real are open to selling Alexander-Arnold, with “several Premier League clubs” reportedly interested in bringing him back to England.

Newcastle United, currently tenth in the Premier League, is one club linked with the defender. The other, more controversial possibility, is a move to Liverpool’s rivals Manchester United, who sit sixth and are just two points behind Liverpool, the team Alexander-Arnold won the Premier League with last season.

Real Madrid’s motivation to sell is clear, as any fee received would likely represent a profit given their initial outlay. Both Newcastle and Manchester United are reportedly considering bids around €40 million. However, these offers are believed to be “insufficient” to convince Real to part ways with him, with the Spanish side said to have “no intention of letting him go.”

Alexander-Arnold is under contract with Real Madrid until the summer of 2031.
