Liverpool’s Academy remains in the spotlight as another departure adds to a challenging period at Kirkby.

Kai Morrall has confirmed he is leaving after eight years with the club. The Northern Ireland youth international is set to join Leeds United. The 15-year-old winger shared the news on Instagram, saying: “After 8 years at Liverpool, it is time for me to say goodbye.”

He thanked the staff and coaches who helped him grow as both a player and a person. “I will miss the memories and friends I made along the way, but I’m excited to start a new chapter and see what the future holds,” Morrall added.

The timing of his exit comes amid difficulties at the Academy. Just two weeks ago, the Under-18s suffered a 7-0 defeat in the U18 Premier League North. Academy reporter Lewis Bower provided context, noting that three defenders were out of position, an Under-16 player made his full debut, and several others had heavy midweek minutes. While context is important, departures like Morrall’s inevitably raise questions about development pathways.
