Real Madrid are reportedly “open to offers” for a highly-regarded player, a move that could significantly impact the Premier League title race.
Liverpool have previously been linked with the player, who might become a crucial addition in their quest for league glory this season.
Currently, optimism is high at Anfield, with Arne Slot’s side leading both the Premier League and the 36-team Champions League group stage as the festive period approaches.
Mohamed Salah has been in exceptional form, tallying 18 goals and 15 assists in 24 appearances this season. Similarly, Virgil van Dijk is excelling, while Ryan Gravenberch has flourished under Slot’s guidance in the holding midfield role.
Despite their strong position, Liverpool’s lack of squad depth in certain areas, particularly central midfield, raises concerns. Injuries to key players like Gravenberch could expose their vulnerability, as potential replacements, such as Wataru Endo, might not meet the standard needed for a title-winning side.
Last summer, the Reds failed in their pursuit of Spain and Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi, leaving them with a shortage in midfield.
However, new reports suggest a potential move for Real Madrid midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni. According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Arne Slot has approved the transfer, with Madrid open to offers that suit their financial needs.
Tchouaméni, 24, joined Madrid from Monaco in 2022 for £68.3m plus £17m in add-ons. Despite his clear talent, he has struggled to make a consistent impact at the club and has even been deployed as a center-back this season. His contract runs until 2028, and he is currently valued at €100m (£83m) by Transfermarkt.
However, it remains uncertain whether Liverpool would be willing to pay such a hefty sum for a player seen more as a “potential” asset rather than a “proven” one.
Reports in November suggested Liverpool were preparing a £50m bid for Tchouaméni. The player himself previously expressed admiration for both Liverpool and Real Madrid, noting his interest in the Premier League and willingness to adapt to different styles of football.
“I’m ambitious,” Tchouaméni said in 2022, highlighting his drive to excel regardless of the league he plays in.
