Decision Made on Luka Vušković’s Future as Father Confirms Loan Stance
The father of Tottenham Hotspur defender Luka Vušković has confirmed that his son will remain on loan at Hamburger SV until the end of the current season.
The Bundesliga side secured the highly rated Croatian youngster on loan in late August, and the 18-year-old has impressed steadily in Germany, already scoring twice this campaign.
Speaking to Croatian outlet Sportske Novosti, Luka’s father, Danijel Vušković, confirmed that Spurs have no plans to recall him during the January transfer window.
“Until June, he will definitely stay at HSV,” he said. “After that, we’ll sit down with Tottenham and decide what’s best. I’m very happy with how he’s living and training there.
“I wouldn’t want him to skip steps and move straight into the Premier League, which I consider the strongest league in the world. There’s still plenty of room for development. From my point of view, staying in Germany wouldn’t be a bad option.”
Luka’s brother Mario is also on Hamburg’s books, although he is currently serving a doping suspension that runs until November 2026.
According to Vušković Snr, the teenager would welcome another loan spell with the German club next season.
“There’s a lot being written about Luka,” he explained. “Above all, he wants to stay at Hamburg and play alongside Mario. But the final decision isn’t his — he’s under contract with Tottenham and everything will be agreed with them. So far, Spurs have been completely fair and have respected Luka’s wishes.”
Several major European clubs, including Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig, are reportedly monitoring Vušković. Tottenham signed him from Dinamo Zagreb in September 2023 for a fee in the region of £12 million.
Because of Brexit regulations, Spurs were forced to wait until after the defender’s 18th birthday to finalise the move.
Vušković has already gained valuable experience on loan at Radomiak Radom in Poland and Belgian side Westerlo, where he netted seven league goals last season.
While interest in the teenager is growing, Tottenham are not expected to entertain offers for one of their brightest prospects.
“They call — many clubs call,” his father added. “But I don’t focus on that. Everything will come in time; he just needs to keep progressing. Others deal with that side and update us when necessary.
“I don’t know whether Tottenham see him strictly as a future first-team player or if they would consider a sale for the right offer. For now, Luka’s focus is on achieving success with HSV and earning a place at the World Cup with Croatia.”
