Tottenham are set to miss out on signing the Premier League forward with seven goals when the January transfer window opens.

A forward linked with Tottenham Hotspur has failed to reach an agreement over a new contract with his current club, which has now taken a firm stance on his future ahead of the January transfer window.

Tottenham have been connected with several proven strikers ahead of the mid-season window. One of them is a player who has made significant progress over the last year, netting nine goals this campaign and earning a call-up to the French national team.

Reports suggest Spurs could renew their interest in Jean-Philippe Mateta in January after considering a move last summer, but a fresh update indicates Crystal Palace have now decided how to handle the striker’s situation.

Crystal Palace’s position on Mateta

Earlier this month, it was reported that Palace were concerned about losing Mateta to Tottenham after being unable to secure his long-term future with a new contract.

However, a source close to the club has now stated that the striker will not be allowed to leave Selhurst Park in January under any circumstances.

Speaking to TEAMtalk, the Palace source said:
“The club are relaxed about the situation. They are willing to discuss some form of extension, but the player is asking for more than what’s currently being offered. Mateta is under contract until 2027, so there’s no pressure to sell him in January or even next summer. Palace won’t be pushed into a decision.”

Spurs not alone in tracking Mateta

According to TEAMtalk, Mateta remains very unhappy about the lack of progress on a new deal at Palace.

The forward is dissatisfied with the terms proposed by Oliver Glasner’s side and has made it clear that improved wages would be required for him to commit his future to the club.

The report also notes that Tottenham are not the only club monitoring the situation, with both Manchester United and Arsenal also keeping a close eye on developments surrounding the striker.
