Tottenham Shift Transfer Focus from Semenyo to Marmoush Amid Premier League Competition

Tottenham Hotspur have rethought their transfer plans after accepting how difficult it would be to sign Ghanaian forward Antoine Semenyo, and are now seriously considering Egyptian international Omar Marmoush instead. Although Spurs remain big admirers of Semenyo, strong interest from several top Premier League clubs has prompted a change in approach.

Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool are all tracking Semenyo, and his €74 million release clause is only valid for a brief period from January 1 to January 10. Tottenham recognise how challenging such a deal would be and acknowledge that it would take extraordinary circumstances to complete.

With that in mind, the club has started looking at alternative attacking targets. Reports from TeamTalk indicate that Omar Marmoush has become a key option on Spurs’ shortlist. The Egyptian forward is also attracting interest from three other Premier League sides, highlighting his rising profile in England.

Marmoush is currently at Manchester City, where his involvement has been limited this season. While Pep Guardiola still values him, Tottenham are aware that negotiating with City would not be straightforward. Any deal would likely need a creative structure, with a loan move that includes an option to buy seen as a realistic possibility.

The 24-year-old is under contract with City until June 2029 and is valued at around €65 million. Despite being an established international, he has struggled for regular game time, making 18 appearances but logging only 532 minutes so far this season, which has led to questions about his future role.

Tottenham view that lack of consistent minutes as a potential opening. They are keen to add depth to their attack and believe Marmoush could thrive with a bigger role in their system. The recruitment team is continuing to evaluate whether he fits both their tactical plans and budget.

While Semenyo remains highly regarded at the club, Spurs appear increasingly realistic about the barriers to signing him. With time pressure, heavy competition and a high release clause involved, Tottenham’s focus has shifted toward a more flexible option.

As the transfer window moves on, Spurs are looking to strike a balance between ambition and practicality. Whether that means a loan move for Marmoush or a renewed push for Semenyo, the club is determined to strengthen its attacking options.
