Cristian Romero charged over alleged misconduct following red card against Liverpool

Tottenham skipper Cristian Romero has been charged over alleged misconduct toward referee John Brooks after his dismissal in the 2–1 loss to Liverpool.

Romero was shown a second yellow for kicking Ibrahima Konate, then delayed leaving the field while disputing the decision with match officials.

In a statement posted on X, an FA spokesperson said: “Tottenham Hotspur’s Cristian Romero has been charged following their Premier League match against Liverpool on Saturday 20 December.

“It is alleged that he behaved improperly by not leaving the pitch promptly and/or by acting in a confrontational or aggressive manner toward the referee after being sent off in the 93rd minute. Cristian Romero has until Friday 2 January 2026 to submit his response.”

Meanwhile, Thomas Frank said that referees are “only human” and claimed three major decisions against Liverpool should have gone the other way.
