Liverpool shift their focus to a 23-year-old forward after Manchester City win the race for Semenyo.

 

 

Liverpool are already reshaping their transfer plans after failing to land Antoine Semenyo, who has chosen a move to Manchester City.

Sources indicate that Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola has now emerged as a leading alternative, with Liverpool considering a move either in January or next summer. The club’s recruitment department has stepped up its tracking of the French international, seeing him as a long-term addition who could significantly strengthen Arne Slot’s attacking setup.

Slot is understood to be a big fan of Barcola’s skill set. At just 23, the winger has grown into one of Ligue 1’s most dangerous wide players. He has scored five league goals in 13 appearances this season for PSG, but his impact goes beyond numbers, with his pressing, ball-carrying and ability to unsettle defences making him a key part of Luis Enrique’s system.

At PSG, Barcola has become an important figure under Enrique, who regularly relies on him in major matches and views him as central to the club’s attacking approach.

The winger is contracted until 2028, and PSG are eager to tie him down to improved terms. However, talks over a new deal have recently hit a standstill. This pause is reportedly due to Barcola and his representatives wanting time to evaluate all options before committing to a new contract.

That uncertainty has put several top European clubs on alert, including Liverpool, who are closely monitoring the situation. After missing out on Semenyo, the Reds are determined to secure a top-quality wide forward who can make an immediate impact while also fitting into a long-term vision.

A January move looks unlikely given PSG’s reluctance to sell mid-season, but Liverpool believe early groundwork could give them an advantage ahead of the summer, especially if contract discussions in Paris remain unresolved.

Any deal would require major financial commitment, but Liverpool’s owners are willing to back the right signing rather than settle for a short-term solution. Manchester United are also expected to show interest, though Liverpool are confident they can beat Ruben Amorim’s side to Barcola’s signature.
