With the January transfer window just 10 days away, Antoine Semenyo has emerged as one of the Premier League’s most sought-after names. Much to Bournemouth’s frustration, the 25-year-old is expected to be at the centre of intense speculation in the coming weeks, with three major clubs from the northwest all keen on securing his services.

Fabrizio Romano has reported that Manchester United and Manchester City are locked in a “direct battle” for the Cherries attacker. However, The Guardian’s Mark Dobson suggests the Ghana international would prefer a move to Arne Slot’s Liverpool if the option presents itself.

Sky Sports have indicated that Semenyo could make a call on his future as early as today, with reporter Kaveh Solhekol highlighting the growing possibility of a switch to Anfield. He explained that Liverpool would be an irresistible destination for the forward, noting the club’s long-standing admiration for him and their previous interest.

Solhekol also pointed to Liverpool’s history of late January interventions, referencing the mid-season signings of Luis Díaz and Cody Gakpo, both of whom were seemingly destined for rival clubs before the Reds stepped in. Liverpool, he said, tend to avoid bidding wars, instead waiting until deals are close before matching terms.

While Liverpool are expected to keep January relatively low-key, funds are available, and the club has shown it can act decisively when a priority target risks slipping away. Solhekol added that Alexander Isak’s injury has prompted internal discussions over whether a late move for Semenyo could be necessary.

Isak’s setback during the weekend victory over Tottenham may force Liverpool to reassess their plans, especially given Semenyo’s form this season, with eight goals to his name after scoring in Bournemouth’s 1-1 draw with Burnley.

Although some reports link Semenyo strongly with Manchester, Liverpool’s hierarchy remain calm, buoyed by indications that Anfield could be his preferred destination should he leave Bournemouth. His existing relationship with sporting director Richard Hughes may also play a key role.

With attacking options currently limited for Slot – even accounting for the eventual returns of Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo – a January move for Semenyo now appears more like a necessity than a luxury. Isak’s injury has reshaped Liverpool’s transfer outlook, increasing the likelihood of a serious attempt to lure the Bournemouth forward to Merseyside.
