“Hopefully only a knock”: Alisson reassures after Isak injury scare at Spurs

The Brazilian added: “I’m happy for him for scoring, but obviously we don’t want him to be injured.”

He continued: “Hopefully it’s just a knock and nothing serious, because his quality helps the team so much.”

Those comments arrived amid growing anxiety.

With Mohamed Salah set to depart for AFCON and Cody Gakpo already sidelined, any prolonged absence for Liverpool’s new No.9 would significantly test the squad.

An injury analyst on X suggested the challenge could result in a lengthy spell out, noting that scissor-style tackles often cause high ankle sprains or MCL damage.

The same assessment outlined recovery timelines ranging from two to twelve weeks, depending on the diagnosis.

That is why Alisson’s tone carried weight.

It helped counter earlier concern raised by Physio Scout, who emphasised that scans would be needed before any conclusions could be drawn, stressing it was only an initial impression rather than a medical verdict.

Isak also entered an unusual statistic, becoming just the second Premier League player this season to come on, score, and then be substituted in the same match.

The goal extended his impressive record against Spurs to seven goals in six league appearances.

Gary Neville captured the atmosphere on co-commentary, saying: “That is a sad sight for Isak. This could have been his lift-off moment, but he’s picked up an injury.”
