Alexis Mac Allister in line for new deal as Liverpool begin contract discussions

 

 

Liverpool have begun initial discussions with Alexis Mac Allister’s camp over a new long-term contract, as the club looks to secure Arne Slot’s core midfield group for the future.

 

The Argentine joined from Brighton in 2023 on a five-year deal and still has around two and a half years left on his current contract. However, after becoming a vital figure under both Jürgen Klopp and now Slot, Liverpool are keen to reward his importance with an extension.

 

Lewis Steele of the Mail reports that negotiations are now underway, although they are said to be at a very early stage.

 

Mac Allister is one of several midfielders Liverpool want to tie down, with talks also expected for Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch, while Curtis Jones is also likely to be offered improved terms.

 

Individually, the 26-year-old has endured a challenging season at times, battling fitness issues early on after a shortened 2024/25 pre-season. In recent weeks, though, he has found form again, excelling at the base of Slot’s midfield diamond, supported by the energy of Szoboszlai and Jones.

 

Despite links to Real Madrid, Steele insists Mac Allister is very happy at Anfield and there are no signs he is pushing for a move.

 

Liverpool are determined to avoid repeat scenarios seen with Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konaté, and instead remain proactive when it comes to renewing key contracts.

 

With Mac Allister, Szoboszlai and Gravenberch all set to enter the final two years of their deals by the end of the season — a period often associated with uncertainty — the club have little desire to sell any of Slot’s midfield regulars. Unless negotiations become unreasonable, it is expected these early discussions will gather momentum in the months ahead.
