Jamie Carragher blasts Tottenham player for ‘constantly blaming others’ following latest mistake vs. Nottingham Forest

Jamie Carragher slammed Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario following their 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest on Sunday. The loss intensified pressure on manager Thomas Frank after another poor showing at the City Ground.

Callum Hudson-Odoi scored twice and Ibrahim Sangare added another, but Spurs’ troubles began with a defensive error in the 28th minute. After Cristian Romero passed back to Vicario, the Italian hesitated and then made a risky pass to Archie Gray near the penalty area. Sangare intercepted and set up Hudson-Odoi to score, leaving Vicario visibly frustrated and blaming Gray.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ Extra Time, Carragher criticized Vicario, saying, “It’s not just about playing out from the back; it’s a weak-footed mistake. Vicario often blames others, and today was no different. Archie Gray could have done better, but the goalkeeper created the problem in the first place. There was no pressure on the ball, and the simple pass should have gone out wide.”

Vicario has faced scrutiny this season for several errors, including being booed by Spurs fans last month after a mistake against Fulham. Despite this, he has outperformed his expected goals against by 2.3, suggesting Spurs might be worse off without him.

Carragher continued to critique Vicario’s decision-making, noting his weak-foot pass to Gray, which was unnecessary and poorly executed. Even if Gray had controlled the ball perfectly, Sangare would still have pressured him. “I’m putting all the blame on the goalkeeper,” Carragher said.

The loss leaves Spurs 11th in the Premier League, having won only once in their last seven games.
