Thomas Frank Steps In Following Djed Spence Incident in Defeat to Nottingham Forest

Tottenham Hotspur boss Thomas Frank has confirmed he will speak with Djed Spence following an incident during Spurs’ 3-0 Premier League loss to Nottingham Forest.

A brace from Callum Hudson-Odoi, along with a brilliant long-range effort from Ibrahim Sangare, secured a convincing win for Forest at the City Ground. Spurs struggled throughout the match, managing just one shot on target. Their problems were compounded when Archie Gray was caught in possession near his own box after taking a short pass from Guglielmo Vicario, leading to Forest’s opening goal.

The defeat leaves Spurs 11th in the table, with only one victory in their last seven league outings. Frustration among supporters has grown, with many calling for Frank’s dismissal amid a run of poor performances. The Dane was also questioned over his substitutions, notably introducing Ben Davies and Joao Palhinha while the team were already 2-0 behind.

Spence, who made way for Davies just before the hour mark, appeared unhappy with the decision. The full-back, who had flourished under Ange Postecoglou last season, was reported by the London Evening Standard to have gestured towards the bench when substituted before throwing his jacket to the ground on his return to the dugout.

Speaking after the match, Frank said he was unaware of the incident at the time but confirmed he would address it directly with the player.

“I’ve been told about it a few times today,” he said. “I didn’t see it, but I’ll review it and speak to him. There could be several reasons — frustration with his own display, the team’s performance, or the substitution itself. I’ll ask him.”

Spurs return to action on Saturday when they welcome Liverpool to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
