Thomas Frank delivers bold message on Tottenham’s January transfer strategy

Tottenham Hotspur supporters will be encouraged by Thomas Frank’s comments ahead of the January transfer window.

With the window fast approaching, talk around Spurs’ potential January signings is beginning to gather pace. Reports suggest the club are prepared to strongly back Frank with significant funds as they continue to reshape the squad, and the Danish coach has now effectively confirmed that ambition.

Frank confirms Spurs will strengthen in January

The 52-year-old has stated that Tottenham fully expect to be active in the January market and will aim to complete business as early as possible.

Speaking to Football.London, Frank revealed that planning for January began immediately after the summer window closed at Hotspur Way.

“We will definitely be in the market, no doubt about that,” he said. “We want to get deals done as early as possible, like always, and hopefully before January 31. Soon after the window shut in September, we had our first formal meeting, and it’s been an ongoing process as I continue to assess the squad.

“There’s the day-to-day work, but I’ve also watched a lot of games live and reviewed them back. You start to pick up on the small good habits and areas that need improvement. All of that helps us get clearer on what we’re looking for.”

Spurs have options lined up across the squad

While recent reports have suggested that a marquee wide attacker is Tottenham’s main January target, Frank revealed that the club has identified potential signings for every area of the team.

Asked whether Spurs would look to strengthen in midfield after failing to land Morgan Gibbs-White in the summer, Frank explained that recruitment planning is much broader.

“It’s not about one specific situation,” he said. “In general, we have options for every position.

“There are multiple names on the list for right-back, centre-back, defensive midfield, goalkeeper, right wing — pretty much everywhere. But signing players is never straightforward, and that’s the reality.”
