Mohamed Salah’s reaction while passing through the Anfield mixed zone is quickly taking over social media
Mohamed Salah brushed off an interview request with a touch of class as he made his way through the mixed zone after Liverpool’s Premier League meeting with Brighton on Saturday.
The Egyptian was named on the substitutes’ bench for a fourth straight league game as Fabian Hürzeler’s side visited Anfield. Now 33, Salah had also been left out of Liverpool’s midweek Champions League trip to Inter Milan, having been sidelined after claiming the club had “thrown him under the bus” during a difficult opening to the 2025/26 season.
Following his omission against Leeds on December 6, Salah went further by suggesting his relationship with head coach Arne Slot had broken down when speaking to the media at Elland Road. However, a week later Slot brought him back into the squad for the Brighton clash.
Asked before kick-off whether he was content with how the situation had been resolved, Slot replied: “Yes, of course — otherwise I would have done things differently.”
Listed among the substitutes alongside record signing Alexander Isak, Salah spent just 26 minutes on the bench before being introduced in place of the injured Joe Gomez. His arrival was met with loud applause from the Anfield crowd.
He quickly made an impact, providing a second-half assist for Hugo Ekitike. That contribution saw Salah surpass Wayne Rooney to become the player with the most goal involvements for a single club in Premier League history, reaching 277.
After the final whistle, journalists waited in the Anfield mixed zone hoping for a word from Salah — and they got a brief one. Smiling as he passed through, the forward declined an interview, joking: “Two weeks in a row? No, no, no.”
The moment sparked plenty of reaction online. One fan joked about a reporter “man-marking Salah,” while another wrote: “Fair play — this is hilarious.” Others added: “We’ve got our happy Mohamed Salah back,” and: “He only stops in the mixed zone once a season, so that’s us done.”
Meanwhile, speculation over his future continues. Speaking at the World Football Summit this week, Saudi Pro League CEO Omar Mugharbel confirmed that several Saudi clubs are interested in signing Salah. According to The Telegraph, Al Hilal, Al Nassr, Al Ittihad, Al Ahli and Al Qadsiah are all ready to make a move.
In his explosive interview on December 6, Salah was asked directly about a potential January switch to Saudi Arabia. He replied: “I don’t want to answer that question because the club will take me in a different direction.”
