A defender with a profile similar to Marc Guehi is now on course to join Liverpool in the January transfer window.

 

 

 

Liverpool have been repeatedly linked with Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, but despite strong interest over the summer, a January deal is far from certain. Reports claim that while Real Madrid have cooled their pursuit of the centre-back, The Athletic still rate Liverpool’s chances of landing him next month as very slim.

 

Although Guehi’s future remains uncertain, Liverpool are expected to bring in at least one defensive recruit during the winter window.

 

Additional reports state that Liverpool could spend an extra €10–15 million in performance-related add-ons as part of their defensive rebuild.

 

One player under consideration is Singo, who currently plays for Galatasaray after joining from AS Monaco in August 2025. The 24-year-old is naturally a right-back, with 134 career appearances as either a full-back or wing-back, but he has also played 62 times as a centre-back. According to Fbref, his profile is similar to Guehi, Real Madrid’s Dean Huijsen, and Arsenal’s Piero Hincapie.

 

A new defender is seen as essential for Liverpool, particularly given Ibrahima Konate’s recent struggles. The Frenchman has faced heavy criticism from pundits and most recently conceded a penalty that fuelled Leeds United’s comeback on Saturday.

 

However, despite his inconsistent form, Konate is not expected to leave. Real Madrid are no longer pursuing him, and Liverpool are now looking to extend his contract beyond its current expiration date in June
