Liverpool Player Offers First Public Comment on Salah After His Exclusion
A Liverpool player has finally broken his silence after Mo Salah was dropped following his explosive remarks about the club and manager Arne Slot.
Salah did not feature in the 3-3 draw with Leeds United on Saturday and later made a point of speaking to journalists in the Elland Road mixed zone, where he unleashed a fierce criticism of Liverpool. He claimed the club had “thrown me under the bus,” insisted “someone wanted me to take all the blame,” and stated that he had “no relationship” with Slot, adding that “someone doesn’t want me at the club.”
The comments caused major backlash, prompting Slot to address the issue in his press conference before Liverpool’s Champions League tie against Inter Milan. Salah was excluded from the travelling squad, with Slot explaining that the club “had to respond” and admitting he was “surprised” by Salah’s outburst.
Goalkeeper Alisson Becker also faced the media and described Salah’s omission as a natural “consequence” of his actions. He said the squad was dealing with the situation as best as possible.
“It’s not easy,” Alisson said. “I’ve played with Mo for nine years now — one at Roma, eight here. He’s a great person, a great character, a Liverpool legend. This doesn’t make me happy, but in football you don’t have time to dwell on things.
“We’ve got a huge game tomorrow. Inter are an excellent team. Our focus has to be on the challenge ahead.”
Alisson added that he and Salah share a strong personal bond from years together, and while they will eventually talk about the situation, it will remain private.
He continued, “Him not being available is just a consequence of what he did, and he knows that. I haven’t spoken to him yet, but we’re good friends. We’ll talk, but that stays between us.”
Salah’s absence has sparked speculation about whether he will ever play for Liverpool again, despite signing a major contract extension until 2027. Alisson, however, remains hopeful.
“I don’t think anything will happen, but I hope he plays for the club again,” he said. “It’s between Mo and the club. We want what’s best for him — but as Liverpool players, we also want what’s best for the club. Hopefully it ends in a win-win.”
Meanwhile, the strongest criticism came from Jamie Carragher on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football.
After Salah referenced him in the interview, Carragher launched a fierce attack, calling Salah’s behavior a “disgrace.” He claimed the interview was “choreographed with his agent” to create maximum damage and increase his leverage against the club. Carragher also accused Salah of selfishness, pointing to his struggles with Egypt and Chelsea, and suggested the timing was a deliberate attempt to get Arne Slot sacked.
