Arne Slot Breaks Silence After Mo Salah’s Shock Outburst Rocked Liverpool
Arne Slot has issued his response to Mohamed Salah following the Liverpool star’s explosive comments made in the mixed zone at Elland Road.
Liverpool’s struggles continued on Saturday after conceding a 96th-minute equaliser in a 3-3 draw away at Leeds United, just days after a 1-1 stalemate with Sunderland at Anfield.
However, the major talking point came after the match, when Salah delivered a stunning interview to multiple media outlets. The forward – who played a key role in Liverpool’s title-winning campaign last season – was benched for the third consecutive game and did not feature at all.
Clearly unhappy only months after signing a contract extension, Salah accused the club of having “thrown me under the bus” and insisted “it’s obvious someone wanted me to take all the blame.”
He went on to claim that he has “no relationship” with Slot and suggested that “someone doesn’t want me at the club,” raising further questions about his future.
Although Salah trained on Monday, he was left out of the travelling squad for Tuesday’s Champions League clash with Inter Milan. Instead, Slot opted to call up 19-year-old defender Wellity Lucky, who debuted in October’s 3-0 Carabao Cup defeat to Crystal Palace.
Speaking in Monday’s press conference, Slot said the only interaction he had with Salah was informing him that he would not be travelling to Milan.
“We’ve told him he isn’t coming with us,” Slot said. “That’s the only communication we’ve had.”
Asked how Salah reacted, Slot replied, “It was a brief one.”
When questioned about whether Salah could be reintegrated despite the transfer rumours, the Dutchman replied, “I firmly believe there is always a way back.”
But when pressed on whether Salah has played his final game for Liverpool, he admitted, “I have no clue.”
Addressing the situation further, Slot denied that their relationship has completely collapsed, but acknowledged that Salah is entitled to feel the way he does.
He also stated that Salah had behaved professionally, showing respect to teammates and staff and training intensely before the Leeds match—making the public outburst unexpected.
“When I stopped playing him, usually players aren’t fond of the manager, but he remained respectful to the staff and teammates and trained very hard,” Slot explained. “So it was a bit of a surprise to hear those comments.”
“But when a player says such things, the club must respond. And that’s why he isn’t here tonight.”
After roughly 10 minutes of Salah-related questions, Liverpool’s press officer intervened to draw the discussion to a close and redirect attention toward the upcoming match against Inter Milan.
