Darwin Núñez’s situation has taken a surprising new twist, with another club now joining the chase for his signature.

 

 

 

A fresh contender has entered the race to sign Darwin Núñez, just as the striker’s future takes an unexpected turn.

 

Núñez left Liverpool in the summer for Saudi giants Al Hilal in a deal worth up to £56.6 million after three seasons at Anfield, following his £64 million transfer from Benfica. His time in the Premier League proved challenging, with only 25 goals in 95 appearances.

 

But the 26-year-old has rediscovered his form in Saudi Arabia, netting five goals in 11 games despite battling multiple injury setbacks, including recurring knee problems.

 

And even though he has been scoring for Al Hilal, reports suggest he could be on the move again, with the January transfer window offering him a potential escape route from the Middle East.

 

According to sources in Argentina, River Plate have been given the opportunity to bring Núñez in. He has also been offered to Turkish side Fenerbahçe, who are currently searching for a new striker.

 

Turkish outlet Sporx claims that Fenerbahçe have already begun a financial assessment of the deal, though the club cannot come close to matching his huge Al Hilal salary, believed to be around £400,000 per week.

 

A loan deal could make the move possible, either through selling players or convincing Al Hilal to cover part of his wages. The transfer is considered realistic, as Núñez has already gathered information about Fenerbahçe.

 

He is said to have spoken with Al Hilal teammate Yusuf Akcicek, who previously played for Fenerbahçe, as well as Uruguayan compatriot Diego Lugano, a former club legend.

 

Fenerbahçe have already taken a Premier League talent this year, with former Aston Villa striker Jhon Durán joining on loan from Al Nassr. Manager Domenico Tedesco currently has Youssef En-Nesyri, Kerem Aktürkoğlu, and Dorgeles Nene available in the attacking positions.
