Jamie Carragher Branded ‘Pathetic’ Over Harsh Remarks About Mohamed Salah

 

 

 

Jamie Carragher has come under heavy criticism from a former Premier League manager after making harsh remarks about Mohamed Salah.

 

Liverpool were held to a 1-1 draw by Sunderland on Wednesday, with Florian Wirtz’s deflected effort earning a point—though the goal was later ruled a Nordi Mukiele own goal, something Wirtz only learned during his post-match interview.

 

The draw followed a 2-0 win over West Ham on Sunday, where Arne Slot dropped Salah to the bench and again left him out of the starting XI against Sunderland.

 

Before the West Ham game, Carragher referenced Jurgen Klopp’s glory years and highlighted the importance of Salah, Alisson, and Virgil van Dijk. But he also argued that all three have declined, suggesting Salah’s “legs have gone.”

 

Those comments sparked a furious response from Sam Allardyce, who blasted Carragher for making a “pathetic” statement and accused him of chasing attention.

 

Speaking on the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast, Allardyce insisted:

“Stop it. He should know better. That’s an absolutely pathetic statement… He’s just throwing it out there for popularity. His legs haven’t gone.”

 

Allardyce also questioned how Salah could have declined so suddenly after performing well last season and resting over the summer, adding that Carragher doesn’t see the Egyptian in training.

 

Salah has scored five goals in all competitions so far this season as he and Liverpool continue to struggle for consistency.
