Playing at right-back — a position that has lacked stability since Trent Alexander-Arnold’s departure — Gomez impressed both defensively and offensively. It was his surging run and cross from the right that set up Gakpo’s late goal.

The former Charlton defender, capped 15 times by England, completed the full 90 minutes as Liverpool picked up their first Premier League win since November 1. He completed 84% of his passes (32 of 38) and backed up his strong showing with equally solid numbers.

Gomez recorded 63 touches, including three inside West Ham’s box. Six of his passes progressed into the final third, highlighting his attacking impact. Defensively, he made three interceptions, three recoveries, and two clearances.

With Alexander-Arnold gone, Slot has rotated options at right-back — including new signing Jeremie Frimpong, Conor Bradley, and even midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai filling in — but Gomez may now have pushed himself to the top of the list.
