“‘No trust from Slot’ – Liverpool considering replacing senior player with 25-year-old”

Liverpool are considering replacing Federico Chiesa with Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo in the January transfer window.

Chiesa’s future at Anfield has become a major topic of discussion. Despite a bright start to the season, the Italian winger has struggled for consistent minutes, attracting interest from several top Serie A clubs. According to Pete O’Rourke (via Football Insider), Liverpool may look to cash in on the 28-year-old but will only allow him to leave once a suitable replacement is secured. Semenyo is currently their preferred option.

Chiesa could have left last summer following a disappointing campaign but chose to stay and fight for his place under new manager Arne Slot. However, Slot is not convinced by him. Although Chiesa produced some lively early-season performances, he has largely been reduced to a bench role, featuring for just 380 minutes across 14 appearances in all competitions.

With Italian sides pushing to bring him home, Liverpool are open to selling — but only if Semenyo or another replacement arrives.

O’Rourke explained:
“Chiesa has been used more this season, but mainly as a substitute. He’s only had two starts, both in the EFL Cup. It’s clear Arne Slot doesn’t fully trust him for a regular run in the team, even though some fans want to see him given more chances.”

He added that a departure is likely only if Liverpool sign another attacker, with Semenyo viewed as a strong candidate.

As January approaches, Italian clubs are expected to make their move. Chiesa is happy at Anfield but may consider leaving to boost his prospects of making Italy’s World Cup squad. Liverpool would also be willing to sell for the right offer — provided they bring in the right replacement.

The Reds have monitored Semenyo for some time, and his Premier League form makes him an appealing option who could prove an exciting addition if Liverpool choose to pursue him again.
