Reports of Liverpool contacting the 38-year-old coach are complete “nonsense,” according to a journalist.

Reports from Europe suggesting that Liverpool have approached a possible successor to Arne Slot have been quickly dismissed as false.

Slot is going through his first major slump since arriving at Anfield, with eight defeats in his last 11 games and the defending Premier League champions slipping to 12th after the opening third of the season. Despite the poor run, Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher have both argued that the 47-year-old is still the right man for the job, and Fabrizio Romano stated on Monday that the club’s leadership continues to fully support him.

Dominic King dismisses Nagelsmann links

German media had claimed that Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes had made contact with Volker Struth, agent of Germany head coach Julian Nagelsmann. However, on Tuesday, Mail Sport’s Dominic King publicly shot down the rumours, saying that talk of Nagelsmann being lined up to replace Slot was “nonsense”, adding that he wasn’t even considered when Klopp left and that the club aren’t seeking a new head coach.

With reliable reporters like Romano insisting that Slot still has the owners’ backing, stories about potential replacements seem to hold no weight. FSG also stood by Jurgen Klopp during a difficult period in his second season, and that patience was rewarded with multiple major trophies.

Nagelsmann could well attract interest after next summer’s World Cup when his contract with Germany ends, but it’s unrealistic to link him with Liverpool right now.

At present, Liverpool aren’t entertaining any conversation about successors to Slot. As far as we’re concerned, he remains in charge until his contract ends in June 2027—and could even earn an extension if he regains last season’s form.
