Tottenham Hotspur didn’t bring in a proven left winger during the summer 2025 transfer window to replace club legend Son Heung-min, who concluded his career in MLS after lifting the Europa League.

The club was heavily linked with Ademola Lookman and Savinho as potential high-profile additions to fill the void, while youngsters Mathys Tel and Wilson Odobert continue their development. Lookman is expected to return to Spurs’ radar in the January window, but Savinho seems unlikely to reappear. Despite being a fan-favorite target following Mohammed Kudus’ signing, Savinho has struggled immensely at Manchester City, making Antoine Semenyo the more realistic Premier League option for the left-wing role.

Once a La Liga Player of the Season contender, Savinho is no longer a regular starter at City. In nine league appearances (four starts), he has just one assist and no goals. His creativity is lacking, he poses minimal goal threat, and even his ball progression has been underwhelming. While his one-on-one ability remains decent, it’s a far cry from his Girona form.

The player’s poor performances have left Manchester City fans wishing they had sold him for the €70 million Spurs reportedly considered paying. For Tottenham supporters, the notion of signing him now is seen as a “scam avoided.”

Spurs’ need for a new left winger has become urgent, especially after their 4-1 thrashing by Arsenal in the North London Derby. Savinho is clearly not the solution. His struggles at City suggest he would be an expensive downgrade compared to the progress of Tel and Odobert, making him an investment Tottenham cannot justify.
