Liverpool Face a Major Payout If They Decide to Dismiss Arne Slot Following Forest Defeat
Liverpool could be forced to pay a huge compensation package to Arne Slot if they decide to sack the Dutch manager during this alarming dip in form.
The Premier League champions have managed just one win in their last seven league games, dropping to 11th place after a crushing 3-0 home defeat to Nottingham Forest at Anfield.
Murillo, Nicolo Savona and Morgan Gibbs-White all scored for Sean Dyche’s side, sealing Forest’s second straight away victory over Liverpool.
Despite spending £450 million on new signings, Liverpool have lost eight of their last 11 matches, piling intense pressure on Slot — even though he delivered the club’s record 20th league title earlier this year.
Former manager Jurgen Klopp has now become the bookmakers’ favourite to return if the Liverpool board opts for a managerial change.
However, dismissing Slot would not come cheap.
Unless he resigns, the Dutchman is owed a significant payout, with his contract running until 2027 after signing a three-year deal when he left Feyenoord in 2024. He earns £6.6 million per year, plus additional bonuses.
If Liverpool were to sack him now, the club would need to pay over £10 million in compensation.
Liverpool next face PSV on Wednesday in the Champions League, before travelling to West Ham for their next Premier League fixture.
Slot, widely seen as one of the most pressured managers in world football right now, accepted blame for the recent collapse in form.
“It’s always my responsibility,” he said after the Forest defeat.
“We couldn’t create enough. I tried adjusting things but they didn’t work. We couldn’t score. We’re in a very bad spell. In a few days we play Champions League.”
Looking ahead, he added:
“We have to keep our heads up, work incredibly hard and try to turn things around. We have quality players. It’s my job to get the best out of them — and I’m not doing that at the moment. That’s why I take responsibility.”
