Five-man shortlist for potential Arne Slot replacements surfaces — and fans aren’t impressed.

A sense of turmoil is beginning to form at Anfield as Liverpool continue to struggle in the 2025/26 campaign. Despite Arne Slot facing increasing pressure, many fans are equally frustrated by the five names reportedly being considered as possible successors.

After cruising to the title in Slot’s debut season, expectations were high for another title push in year two. Big summer additions such as Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez only strengthened the belief that Liverpool would defend their Premier League crown.

Instead, the season has unravelled quickly. A strong start has given way to five defeats in their last six league outings, dropping the Reds to eighth place. The board still publicly back Slot, but rumours about his job persist.

More Managers Linked With Liverpool
Per Lewis Steele of the Daily Mail, Liverpool remain committed to Slot for now, yet the same five managers who were shortlisted when Jurgen Klopp left in 2024 could re-enter the conversation if results don’t improve.

Sebastian Hoeness has transformed Stuttgart into Champions League qualifiers and 2025 DFB Cup winners after previously battling relegation. Roberto De Zerbi, now guiding Marseille in a Ligue 1 title race, also remains highly rated after his impressive spell at Brighton.

Girona boss Michel – once tipped as a future Pep Guardiola replacement – was admired by Liverpool after leading his side to a third-place finish in 2023/24, even though they slumped to 16th the following year. Ernesto Valverde, thriving with Athletic Bilbao, and Luciano Spalletti, currently at Juventus, were also in the frame.

Fans Unimpressed With the Alternatives
Despite their achievements, supporters have reacted negatively to the reported shortlist. One fan summed up the mood, calling it an “extremely worrying list.” Others echoed the sentiment: “The state of that list…” and “What an utterly terrible list…”

Another supporter didn’t hide their preference: “Yeah, do not sack Slot under any circumstances.” While the club still appear to trust their manager, fans are hoping more compelling candidates emerge if Liverpool decide to make a change.
