Exclusive: Liverpool set to take a tough stance after issuing a major transfer ultimatum

Liverpool have delivered a firm ultimatum to Ibrahima Konate: accept their latest – and final – contract proposal, or be sold in the January transfer window.

According to exclusive information shared with CaughtOffside, the club are unwilling to let negotiations drag on any further and are prepared to cash in on the defender, with Marc Guehi lined up as his potential replacement this winter. As reported earlier on X, Liverpool have tabled a new offer in a last effort to keep the France international, whose current deal expires at the end of the season.

If Konate rejects this proposal, the Reds have no intention of returning with another, believing the new terms already place him among their top earners.

Will Konate stay at Liverpool?

So far, Konate and his representatives have given no response, leaving uncertainty over whether he will be convinced to remain at Anfield. The 26-year-old may feel it’s time for a fresh challenge, regardless of the financial incentive, or he could simply be holding out for the best possible deal.

Liverpool have experienced both outcomes recently – with Trent Alexander-Arnold choosing to leave on a free after running down his contract, while Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk eventually signed new deals late last season. Supporters will hope Konate follows the latter example after years of strong performances for the club.

Could Marc Guehi replace him?

Guehi was close to joining Liverpool in the summer and remains their priority target, with the England defender still keen on a move to work under Arne Slot. Should Konate depart, Guehi is viewed as the ideal successor, though he too is approaching free agency, opening the door for competition from other major clubs.

Konate’s final decision could ultimately determine whether Liverpool move quickly enough to secure Guehi’s signature.
