Liverpool may be showing signs of recovery in recent weeks, but major question marks still hang over the form and future of Mohamed Salah.
Arne Slot’s men sealed a morale-boosting 1-0 win over Real Madrid, following a 2-0 victory against Aston Villa in which Salah was on the scoresheet. However, those results haven’t fully silenced the growing concerns around their Egyptian star. Salah has struggled to hit his usual elite standards this season, falling short of the world-class consistency he has delivered year after year.
With Saudi Pro League clubs still circling and ready to table “huge” offers, Liverpool are increasingly open to cashing in on Salah – and early groundwork has already begun for possible replacements ahead of next summer.
One name rising fast on their shortlist is Brighton sensation Yankuba Minteh. The winger’s blistering pace and fearless attacking style have caught Liverpool’s eye as a potential right-wing successor. Minteh has made a bright start to the season with one goal and three assists in 10 matches, but his price could be a stumbling block.
Ex-Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Brighton could demand up to £100 million for Minteh due to his growing reputation and consistent Premier League impact.
“When a young player shines like Minteh at a club like Brighton, top clubs will always come knocking,” Brown explained. “Liverpool are watching him closely because that’s an area they know they must reinforce. Brighton won’t let him go cheaply – £100m or close to it is realistic.”
Brown also hinted that while Salah is still admired at Anfield, his recent dip in form and age mean Liverpool must start planning the future:
“Salah will surely find form again, but Liverpool need to prepare for life after him. He’s 33, and they’ll have to make a move eventually.”
Adding to the dilemma, Salah is expected to join Egypt for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations, which could rule him out of key fixtures during a crucial part of Liverpool’s season. His absence would not only impact their goals and creativity, but also increase pressure on Slot’s attacking options — especially if his form remains inconsistent before leaving for international duty.
This follows a Football Insider report from 24 October claiming Salah is facing a “problem” at Liverpool, struggling to meet the high expectations he has set for himself over the years.
