When Liverpool fans sang the chant at Anfield, Pep Guardiola was quick to take a swipe. But when his own supporters direct the exact same taunt at our manager, he stays completely silent. The double standards couldn’t be more obvious.
During Manchester City’s 3–0 win on Sunday, City fans repeatedly shouted “you’re getting sacked in the morning” at Arne Slot around the 80th minute.
But Guardiola — the same man who criticised Liverpool supporters last season for chanting it at him — didn’t utter a word about it afterward.
In his post-match comments, published on mancity.com, he spoke only about City’s “fantastic week” and the team’s positive energy. Not a single mention of his own fans using the chant.
The very line he once called disrespectful suddenly isn’t worth talking about.
Guardiola completes the full hypocrisy cycle
It’s quite the contrast to his reaction at Anfield last year, when he complained about Liverpool fans and suggested they lacked respect. After that match, he said:
> “I didn’t expect that at Anfield… Maybe they should have sung it in the past.”
Those comments revealed a manager who clearly didn’t appreciate the joke when it was aimed at him.
Fast-forward to his 1,000th match in management, and when the chant is aimed at someone else — silence. No issue. No outrage. Just a grin and comments about City being “back to their best.”
For someone who once lectured others on respect, the shift is remarkable.
His silence speaks volumes
The 3–0 loss was frustrating, but the hypocrisy is the real irritation.
Arne Slot responded with professionalism — no drama, no complaints — whereas Guardiola previously reacted as if he had been personally wronged.
Slot has already shown he values fairness, spending his post-match energy addressing the ridiculous offside call, not petty chants.
The contrast between the two managers couldn’t be clearer: one focused on football, the other once got offended by light-hearted banter.
And now that the chant comes from his own fanbase? Suddenly, Guardiola has nothing to say.
That’s not respect. That’s selective outrage.
