Liverpool Supporters Call for Player’s Exit in January Following Man City Defeat

Liverpool supporters have urged the club to offload a certain player in January following his display at the Etihad Stadium.

It was a miserable outing for Arne Slot’s side in the Premier League, as Manchester City handed them a 3-0 defeat in what was Pep Guardiola’s 1000th game in management. Erling Haaland broke the deadlock in the 29th minute, having earlier seen a penalty saved by stand-in goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili.

Liverpool thought they had struck back through Virgil van Dijk, but the goal was ruled out after Andy Robertson was deemed offside in the build-up. The Premier League later confirmed: “The referee’s on-field decision of offside and no goal for Liverpool was checked and upheld by VAR – with Robertson offside and clearly impacting the goalkeeper.”

City then added a second before half-time thanks to Nico Gonzalez, and Jeremy Doku sealed the win with a brilliant strike in the second half.

Although Liverpool’s overall performance was lacklustre, fans singled out Ibrahim Konaté for criticism. The defender has been heavily scrutinised in recent weeks, especially amid reports he could leave on a free transfer next summer.

Supporters vented their frustration on social media:

“Replace Konaté in January — he looks uninterested and his mind is already in Madrid.”

“Konaté needs to go in January. His passing is awful, his decision-making is shocking and he’s as weak as a bag of Haribo.”

“Can we arrange transport for Konaté to Madrid in January? Gomez can do the job for the rest of the season.”

“Once Konaté makes one mistake, you can expect ten more. His head completely drops. He’s a liability.”

“If Madrid take Konaté for free, we’ve scammed them.”
